For a band that doesn't take itself too seriously, Electric Six has some seriously great catchy tunes. The unlikely combination of metal meets disco truly set the place on fire. Singer Dick Valentine waved to the crowd, did situps and leg lifts and all the things that a frontman isn't supposed to do, but did and didn't look silly doing them. He thanked "New Yorker" magazine for calling them endearing; maybe they'll thank me when I just simply call them entertaining. Electric Six did the encore thing a bit differently. For the first encore, they stood on stage with their heads down and the lights out for about 3 minutes. The second time, the house lights came on and half the crowd left before they came back with a cover of Queen's "Radio Ga Ga."
Junior Senior, the other act on the bill, could have headlined a show of their own. The entire crowd packed themselves in and sang along to every song that this Danish duo performed. They too, looked like they were having a great time, especially during their medley of "Twist and Shout" and "Push It." An onstage mishap caused singer, Jeppe Laursen, to trip over the bass player, Filiip, causing his bass to split in two. So he just pulled a Pete Townsend and smashed the rest of his bass until a replacement was found.
The Affair needs a lesson in learning where to place their guitar when it's not in use. The feedback certainly didn't help, nor was it used in their songs. Otherwise, this band is going the route of the Donnas who went the route of the Runaways. It's not an all-girl group, but their songs deliver some catchy hooks that are certainly worth a listen. |
