Gym Class Heroes came out on stage admist a starlit backdrop and a flag with a goofy face caricature. The Over-21 crowd was just a few years older than their main fanbase, but they were able to hold the crowds' interest long enough for their hit "Cupid's Chokehold" to be played.
After a set change that took longer than both bands' set, Hinder takes the stage and bass player Mike Rodden immediately jumps into the crowd. He had plenty of room to move around as half the audience had already left. By the time Hinder's set was over, there was less than a quarter of the audience present. It was an Over-21 crowd, it was barely 10:30 and the building wasn't on fire, so what was the problem? Maybe it was vocalist Austin Winkler trying too much to be like Buckcherry's Joshua Todd with fewer tattoos and a whole lot less charisma? Most likely, it was because the band just stopped trying as the crowd kept getting smaller and smaller.
As this odd pairing was put together for the benefit of the Tribeca Film Festival, maybe everybody left to catch a movie. |
