Sold out!
Les Claypool may be one of the best bass players in rock music right now; however, being a talented player does not necessarily make him an entertaining one. A reunited Primus, with original members Larry Lalonde and Tim Alexander, perform "an evening with Primus." and what a long evening it was. The show was divided into two sections, first with Primus playing whatever they felt like and the second half a complete performance from beginning to end of their album "Sail the Seas of Cheese."

Two large balloons filled the stage which served as screens showing videos and cartoons and other boring stuff that I could care less about. There was very little interaction between the band and the audience. And whenever Claypool decided to talk, he would go on incessantly. Every song turned into a jam session that blended into the next song so the entire show seemed like one long song. Of course, there were some high points such as the opening of act II when "Sail the Seas of Cheese," and "Here Come the Bastards" awakened the crowd, but just as quickly as they came alive, the spark went out. In fact, the most entertaining part of the evening was the intermission, when a early 60's film about heroin addiction was shown.

I basically stopped paying attention to the show after I realized that there was a drum solo going on. I went to the bathroom at that point, went to coatcheck, went back upstairs, got a bottle of water from the bar and realized the solo was still going on. While the sound was flawless, I could have sat home and popped in one of their CD's. At least with that I could skip to my favorites. The only thing that showed that there was actually a sold out crowd, was a couple of mosh pits and some chants of "Primus sucks!" Even though it comes as an endearment from the crowd, from me it comes as a fact.
