The Deftones said "Cheers to Metallica." Linkin Park called them "The greatest band on Earth." Limp Bizkit posted "Metallica is the shit," on their screen. And when Metallica took to the stage, they were able to back up the claims made by the other bands. Unfortunately, I was unable to catch Mudvayne's set, but somehow, I don't think they would have given Metallica too much competition.
Deftones frontman, Chino Moreno wailed to get the crowd into a frenzy. For him, "7 words" equals 5 pits. Linkin Park's dual attack of Bennington's screams and Shinoda raps got the crowd at Giant's Stadium to come alive. Fred Durst's antics during Limp Bizkit's set won favorable approval, despite the not so great rendition of "Sanitarium." Durst probably could have fit in more songs during his set if he didn't spend several minutes talking in between them.
An hour after Limp Bizkit's set may have caused the momentum to die down, but all it took was the opening chords of "Battery" for Metallica to have the crowd in the palm of their hands. As all the bands had new albums to promote, only Linkin Park chose to give us a generous portion of their new material. Limp Bizkit chose to give us one song which could either be called "Ode to Angela Jolie" or "Fire," but is actually called "Stick Em." The two new songs that Metallica gave us fit in perfectly with their pre Justice set. At the end of the show, Metallica promised us that they would be back in March, can any of us wait that long? |
