The show boils down to this: Jack White comes out looking like Zorro, but instead of a sword he has a guitar(s) and spends 90 minutes with his big sister, or at least that’s what he calls her now, and plays so many songs that they meld into each other.
There wasn’t so much hype for the band as there has been in the past, and I’m sure the band agrees that it’s a good thing. Being released from the hype allows them the room to experiment. The new songs off of their latest CD “Get Behind Me Satan” worked very well live and even slower songs such as “I’m Lonely (But I Ain't That Lonely Yet)” was energetic.
The sold out crowd at Keyspan Park loved the show, and most of them came early to catch the openers, Brendan Benson and the Shins. Brendan Benson’s set was rather enjoyable albeit a bit too safe while The Shins’ performance was like the Cyclone, it had its ups and downs |
